Did that hurt?
This is the typical question for everyone who sees my tattoos. I have a 1/2 sleeve on my left arm, among others. Of course it hurt. It took a total of 9 hours (over many sittings of course). I always explain that it is done with needles and it always hurts. The other scenario bothers me even more. I am in line at a gas station, grocery store, restaurant, doctor's office, you name it, and someone will comment on mine, "Hey, that's very pretty." Then proceed to pull up their shirt and show me the one on their back, stomach, arm, wrist, neck, thigh, foot, ankle...blah blah blah....
Here is a news flash to those of you who don't know: I don't give a shit. I couldn't care less if you have one or 500 tattoos. I don't care why you got it or when. I don't care how long it took, how the person messed up, how drunk you were, not one bit. I don't want to talk about yours, mine, or anyone else's. I did not get it for you, I got it for me. Its unfortunate that you can see it and have to ask me all about it. If you pull up my sleeve to see more, you die. And most of all, you are not initiated into some cool 'tattoo gang' when you get one. You and I are not friends and we won't be having a beer later.
Please make note of this. Next time you see a beautiful tattoo, tell the person "That tattoo is simply beautiful" Then smile and walk away. Be friendly. That's all.
