My Griffon

My kitty has Pancreatitis. That sucks. He is at the vet right now getting IV fluids. Doesn't look good. When I arrived at the vet this morning, I did so to 2 girls crying their eyes out. It was obvious they just lost a pet. More obvious that it was a cat from the way they looked at Griffon when I walked in.
He is in pitiful shape. In truth, I am not sure he will make it past this one. Griffon is a 14 year old tabby. At his largest, he was 24 pounds. He is now down to 19.8. Sad. He is huge with big ears, a very long, wiry tail and big feet. His backside rises off the floor about 3 inches higher than his front, so he looks like he has a hunchback and is slanty. Its amusing. He has always slept on his back, back legs spread eagle and front legs tucked up like a T Rex. Its sexy.
I found Griffon in a pet store in a mall in Maryland. He was 12 weeks old and bigger than most kittens. He was on sale for $29.99. I like to think I saved him from imminent death. He owed me from day one. I liked him best because he was laying on his side with his head resting on his food dish, eating. That's my kind of animal.
He has often times been threatened with becoming an instant outdoor cat. His nickname was "The Asshole" in the house. He terrorized the other cats by stalking them or hiding quietly behind corners for them to approach. Then he would pounce and toss them to the ground. There is many a furball picked up in my home from cat attacks.
It might be time to say goodbye to Griffon. Its a tough thought, but I know he is in rough shape. Its a waiting game now. I very much thought that I was ready to see him go, but I was mistaken.

Meredith, I love how you found your cat. I think the stories of how we choose are pets can sometimes be as fun as birth stories. I know its so hard to think of losing him, but I commend you on keeping a cat for 14 years, that says how well cared for he is to live so long with Diabetes and at his gargantun weight. Isn't it sad when 19 pounds is skinny for our cats??

Griffon is a very regal looking cat. Meredith it is never easy to let go even when you know that it may be time. Just hug him lots and lots and I will think lots of good thoughts for your gorgeous kitty.
