She Bangs
I cut my baby's bangs this weekend. We have been trying to avoid it at all costs. Her bangs went all the way to her nose. She was constantly peering through them like a St Bernard. It was sweet.I would use ponytails, clips and barrettes to hold her bangs out of her face. In what I can only deduce was on purpose, Phil's mom brought up those butterfly clips and put one in her hair. When she discovered it was there, she pulled it out. Then she did this over and over and over and over. Anything in her hair she quickly vetoed. (Phil's mom was the first to tell me it was time to cut her hair- therefore I was hell-bent on not doing it until she turned 2).
After pulling out 2 ponytails and 7 clips, I decided my only recourse was to clip some bangs. Now she can see, but she looks more like a little boy. I will now have to dress her as PeptoBismol in order to avoid the 'boy' comments. Crud.
This is why I have a problem with all of this, when I was about 6, my mom gave me the "pixie" cut. I was a tomboy and wore sweatshirts and jeans a lot. Once, in a grocery store, I lost my mother. I ran up and down isles. I wasn't panicked so much as nervous. I went to the counter and told them I lost my mom. They quickly announced "We have a little boy named Meredith at Customer Service that has lost his mom." I was mortified. My mom came and everything was fine.
I have never forgotten this. I will not go to opposite and dress my child like a doll or Barbie, but I do always have in the back of my mind that I look like a boy, DDDs and all.

With her beautiful sweet face I can't imagine anyone would think that she is a boy. I bet her new bangs look great. You would think that the store employee would know Meredith was a girls name or at least ask. Brutal- oh well I still think you are gorgeous and that you look like a girl.
